This James Burk is an interesting character I will write more about later. The mother of Grandma (Watkins) Turner (1899-1975) was Canzada (Gregory) Watkins (1874-1956). Her great grandmother was Jane Burks. Tracking Jane's line led me to find this very interesting abstract.

" George Campbell was fined for absence from divine worship, Robert Cunningham for being drunk, James Burk for swearing, Humberton Lyons for adultery, Stephen Holston for breaking the peace, Patrick McDonald for being drunk and drinking the Pretender's health, John Graham for abusing Rev. John Hindman, John Flanagan for horse stealing, Samuel Hulls for breaking the Sabbath by singing profane songs, Daniel Evans for not providing for his children in a "desent" christian manner. John Crank for unnecessarily travelling ten miles on the Sabbath, Henry Fuller for disturbing the peace, Joseph Love for biting off John Noland's ear, Thomas Brown for breaking int Alexander Boyd's store( acquitted) John Bowyer for ill using Israel Christian was Christian trying to suppress gaming, Negroe Tone hung for the murder of John Harrison, head put on pole by the roadside, John Harry accused of stealing from Thomas Ingles, Rosanna Ralston accused of stealing from John Elliott, Adam Harman bound to the peace towards William Thompson, William Thompson examined for counterfeiting, Priscilla Ladd given 39 lashes for larceny, Judith Ryley convicted of murdering her illegitimate child, Daniel McAnair committed for being drunk before the court, Alexander Sayers, Gent. committed for appearing before the court intoxicated , Alexander Sayer indicted for blasphemy, David Harman summoned for not bringing up his children in a christian-like manner, John Daley charged with entering the house of William Carleton and Esther and taking property and reaping and carrying away four acres of wheat, John Lockhart and Col. John Smith imprisoned for debt."
