Thomas Day 

       

Thomas was the father of Elizabeth Mary Angelica Day. She would marry George Shepherd abt 1725.  This union will eventually lead to our Morning Eveline McQueary, the wife of James Harris Meeks.

Thomas was born abt 1651.  His first wife was Dorothy (Young) Hudson.  Some years later he married a woman named Elizabeth. It appears they had only the one daughter.

An Inquisition

An Inquisition….taken at ye house of Thomas Dayes in Ffarnham Parish in Essex County ye 10 day of February in ye yeare 1699 before me. Rich’d Covington one of his Majesties Justices of ye Peace for ye County of Essex upon view of the body of Elizabeth day ye wife of Thomas Day….then and there lying dead and ye Jurors being good and lawfull men and Sworne to trye and inquire in ye behalfe of our Sovereigne Lord & King how and in what manner ye Eliza Day came by her death and they upon their oath say that ye Elizabeth Day was much beaten and bruised with both her eyes exstreem black with many other bruses on her face and bruise on her right eare and a hole underneath ye smae eare and we of the juror say..ye cause of ye sd. Eliza Days death and wee of ye Jurors further say that Tho. Day at ye same time was much brused and beaten having both his Eyes Extreemly brused and black several cuts in his head and further upon his Examination would not confess anything how Elizabeth his wife came by them blows and wounds now how he came to be soo beaten himself so we Jurors say that in ye parish and county aforsd and on the eight or ninth of this instant to wit: in ye dwelling house of ye sd. Tho. Day that ye Sd. Eliza. Day was barbarously murdered and by all manner of Circumstances we can find or gather that ye aforesaid Thom. Day is Guilty of ye murdering ye said Elizabeth Day. In Reffereance to ye Same I Rich’d Covington as afforsd togeather with the jurory aforsd: have put our hands and seales ye day and date above written.

There is no further discussion until.... Aprill Generall Court 1700. Thomas Day of Essex Co., VA was charged with murdering his wife Elizabeth Day was acquitted.  and then...October Generall Court 1700.. John Smith was found guilty of murdering Elizabeth Day and was executed.

MEEKS My brickwall

  This Family has made me crazy for years -   My ggg grandfather James Meeks apparently used the name Harris for quite a while in his youth   That is the name he gave when he married and was even listed on death certificate as "Meeks alias Harris"  also Charley Harris is named as his father and simply "Meeks" as mother His brother Thomas has father unknown and Martha Meeks as mother. I have not yet located any records of  the oldest son Jackson beyond the 1870 census .  What I have tried to do is gather bits and pieces as I have seen them in the hope that it will someday  it will all "Click!"  So far , nothing. Never give up on a brick wall - Augustine Walker (1564-1614)

    Augustine Walker was the father of Elizabeth (Walker) Warren.  She and her family were passengers on the Mayflower.    My tie to him is thru my husband.  I like this man because he is proof that genealogy research is never really done. For many years, the father of Elizabeth was listed as unknown. Genealogist of all skill levels had researched all the Mayflower families and come up empty.  Then in December 2002, Edward Davies found the missing piece of the puzzle.  So when I hit those brick walls I can only hope that it won't take 300 plus years to break thru.   A google search of   "the will of Augustine Walker born 1654" should allow you to see a photo scan of the will at an old Rootweb site.
